All active participants need to sign in at the UTRGV Performing Arts Center Lobby when arriving on campus for workshop day. Sign-in starts on Saturday, April 6, at 8:30am

Events Leading up to Workshop Day
Monday, April 1 - Recital Patrick Hopkins (cello) with Dr. Stacy Kwak (piano) at STC Cooper Center – 7:30 pm
Tuesday, April 2 - Concerto Day at STC Cooper Center – 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Thursday, April 4 - Master class with Julian Schwarz at STC Cooper Center – 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Thursday, April 4 - Guest Artist Recital Schwarz & Bournaki Cello and Piano Duo at STC Cooper Center – 7:30 pm
Friday, April 5 - Master class with Bongshin Ko at UTRGV Performing Arts Center – 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Friday, April 5 - SPRING STRINGS at Gelman Stained Glass Museum- 7:30 pm
All performances, master classes, workshops, presentations, and rehearsals are open to the public
All participants will choose a cello ensemble appropriate for their skill level
You can choose the ensemble on the application form by grade and skill level. If you want to change your original cello ensemble choice, you may do so during the first rehearsal at the festival
- Novice Ensemble (Efrain Munguia) - For students grade 6-7 (or 1-2 years playing experience)
- Junior Ensemble (Natalie Haugeberg) - For students grade 7-9 (or 2-4 years playing experience)
- Senior Ensemble (Bongshin Ko) - For students grade 9-12 (or at least 4 years) and all adults
- Pro Ensemble (Tido Janssen and Patrick Hopkins) – For college students, professional teachers, professional performers, and advanced adult amateurs
All cello ensembles perform in the Festival Ensemble Concert Saturday, April 6, 2024, 5:00 pm in the UTRGV Performing Arts Center, Edinburg
All performers are required to wear Concert dress all Saturday afternoon (1:30 - 6:30 pm), after lunch, for rehearsals, the dress rehearsal AND the performance on Saturday, April 6, 2024, 1:30 - 6:30 pm. pm
Concert dress is your choice of all black, or solid black bottom and solid white top
On Saturday participants can choose from a variety of workshops and presentations. For options see the festival schedule
- Submit Application
- All registered participants will receive an email with a link to a shared folder to access the music for the cello ensembles. Make sure you enter a working email in the application form!
- A completed Release of Student Information, Pictures, & Video Form (the last page of the Release and Indemnification Form) must be on file for all adult participants. Please email this last page of the forms to tido.janssen@utrgv.edu by April 5, or bring a signed copy to sign-in on April 6 before the festival starts. Cellists without these authorization forms cannot participate in the cello festival.
$35 participation fee is due by Friday, March 29, 2024
Participation Fee includes tuition + t-shirt + lunch on Saturday, April 6All other meals are responsibility of the participant
Late registrations accepted until Friday, April 5. 12:00 noon (late registrations will not receive a festival t-shirt)
