The Provost Post

This semester marks a defining milestone in UTRGV’s history..

In only ten years, we have done what it takes other institutions generations to achieve: establish schools of medicine, podiatry, and optometry; launch multiple doctoral programs; and grow to more than 35,000 students.

What’s more is that in ten years we have become known nationally for the upward mobility and degree completion of our graduates. Our workplace has been recognized and affirmed by the people who know it best—our employees. Faculty are winning prestigious national and international awards and recognition. And with every step, we’re moving closer to our goal of becoming a Research 1 university.

And this year, another historic milestone—our football team took the field for the very first time and won five of their first six games. Victory and losses go together; it’s how a strong program is built.

From where I sit in the provost’s office, it’s truly breathtaking to pause and reflect on how far we’ve come. The progress we have made in ten years is possible because of the incredible work done across our campuses by faculty, staff, and students.

Thank you for everything you do to move UTRGV forward. Cheers to our first ten years—and the many more ahead.

Luis H. Zayas, Ph.D.
Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
