Computer Use Policy

Meeting the information needs of library users is integral to the mission of the UT Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine Libraries. The library staff endeavors to develop collections, resources and services to meet these needs. It is within this context that the library offers access to the Internet and other electronic resources. Any health-related information searching is a legitimate use of these resources.

  • Community Users: Users from the community are permitted to use designated computers at School of Medicine Libraries with a 2-hour time limit. Community users will be asked to present a photo ID at the information desk and will be provided with a guest code that is valid for 2 hours from the time of initial login.
  • UTRGV Affiliates: Students, faculty and staff of the UT Rio Grande Valley may use any of the desktop PCs in the School of Medicine Libraries. A UTRGV network login is required.
  • Visiting Medical Students: Visiting medical students should visit a library information desk to request an access code for library computers.
  • Personal Devices: The Eduroam wireless network is available to UTRGV and UT Health Science Center affiliates with appropriate login credentials.
  • Print, Copy, Scan Services

Equipment Checkout

The following equipment is available for checkout by students, faculty and staff of the UTRGV School of Medicine and the UT Health Science Center San Antonio.

  • Laptops with Rosetta Stone Spanish language-learning software

  • Noise-cancelling headphones

  • Anatomy and pathology models
  • Health education models

3D Printing and Scanning

The Ramirez Library is pilot testing 3D printing and scanning for medical education and research. If you are interested in 3D printing and modeling for these purposes, please contact the Ramirez Library for more information. The Ramirez Library has the following equipment available:

  • MakerBot Replicator Desktop 3D Printer (5th generation)
  • NextEngine 3D Scanner
