Karen is the daughter of Misael and Guillermina Barrera. Karen was a part of numerous extracurricular activities during high school including: DECA, National Honor Society, Lower Valley Cotillion, Student Council, Band, UIL, and Upward Bound. She graduated as Salutatorian of her senior class in 2019 and will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall where she will be a pursuing a degree in Biomedical Sciences. Her career goal is to attend medical school and eventually become an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
Jacob Matthew Islas

Jacob will be attending the University of the Incarnate Word Majoring in Rehabilitation Science, Pre-Physical Therapy. Jacob is also dual enrolled at the University of Texas- San Antonio with the U.S Air Force ROTC.

Elizabeth is a 2019 graduate of Rio Grande City High School. She has chosen to begin her studies in Business Management at South Texas College and will then transfer to UTRGV to complete her bachelor’s degree. She aspires to become a regional manager at a large corporation one day.

Deveny graduated top 2% of Johnny G. Economedes High School class of 2019 and is a UB Edinburg participant. She has chosen to pursue her studies in Biological Science at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with the hopes of becoming a surgeon. Deveny participated in UB Edinburg’s Summer Internship program in concurrence with Bridge where she interned with the Biology Department under the direction of Dr. Bradley Christoffersen. As an intern, she worked on identifying the dichotomy of plant species, operated microscopy digital camera image stitching of plant vascular systems, and logged data of observed control and variable plant behavior.

Paola is a 2019 graduate of Edcouch-Elsa High School. She was actively involved in U.I.L. and participated in several events such as Number Sense, Calculator Application, and Mathematics. Paola was ranked #7 of her graduating class and is attending University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. She is majoring in Computer Engineering with a concentration in hardware. This summer, during the Bridge Program, she interned with the Department of Public Affairs and Security Studies under the direction of Dr. Zemrani, where she updated coursework and class syllabi.

Monica is a graduate of the 2018-2019 Porter Early College High School senior class. Monica graduated #5 in her class and was a superb, well-rounded student, athlete, and member of her community. This past year she was part of the tennis, ballroom, and estudiantina teams. In tennis, Monica placed 2nd place at the Brownsville Tournament for JV girls doubles and 1st place JV girls doubles at the District Tournament. She was also a member of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Business Professionals of America (BPA), Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), and National Honor Society (NHS) clubs. Through her membership in VITA, she helped families in her community prepare their income tax forms at no charge. Through the Upward Bound program, she volunteers her time monthly as a requirement for the program as well. Monica attended the University of Texas Rio Grande where she will be studying Bio-Medical Science and Psychology and aspires to become a psychologist one day.

Fiore is a graduate of Lopez Early College High School. She was a secretary for the National Honor Society, an officer for Keep Brownsville Beautiful, member of the Spanish Honor Society, actively involved in VITA, Colorguard, Book Club, and was also a Student Ambassador. Fiore is currently attending the University of Houston where she is pursuing a degree in Political Science. She aspires to become a Lawyer someday.

Aylin is a graduate of Rivera Early College High School. She is the daughter of Oscar and Isaura Mendoza from Brownsville, Texas. Aylin was ranked #14 in her class was a member of the History Club, Student Council, Business Professionals of America (BPA), Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and Technology Students Association (TSA). She will be attending Texas A&M College Station and majoring in Nutrition. Her career goal is to attend medical school.
