Program Overview
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program at UTRGV is a fully online, alternative certification program that equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become certified teachers in Texas. This comprehensive program offers three concentrations: Bilingual Education, Special Education, and Generalist, allowing students to tailor their studies to their professional interests and career goals.
Designed to prepare culturally responsive educators, the MAT program emphasizes research-based teaching strategies, curriculum design, and educational leadership. Students will learn to address the diverse needs of learners and be equipped to make a positive impact in classrooms and communities. Through coursework and hands-on experience, graduates will meet the Texas Education Agency requirements for program content and clinical teaching, residency, or internship placements, ultimately obtaining a teaching certification.
