Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis the information below is tentative. The REU/RET program will preferably offered as an in-person experience with hands-on access to the research, but might be changed to a fully online or hybrid mode if the necessity arises.
Students/teachers can choose a research project from the areas of:
The program accepts applications from undergraduate students and high school teachers. Nationwide as well as local UTRGV student applications are welcome to apply. High school teacher participants are from the local region are welcome to apply.
Student (REU) participants will receive a $4,750 stipend. A travel reimbursement up to $600, free accommodation and a food allowance will be provided for non-local student participants.
Teacher (RET) participants will receive a $10,000 stipend.
The program takes place June 6 to August 14, 2022 at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Brownsville campus.
Physics, astronomy, chemistry, computer science, engineering and other STEM majors are encouraged to apply.
Undergraduate students that will not have graduated by the end of Fall 2021 are eligible to participate, but due to funding agency requirements, participants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents.
