WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT UTRGV?
I serve as an assistant director of Financial Aid, focusing specifically on our graduate student population and the Graduate College.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED HERE?
I have been with the university for 26 years, beginning my career in financial aid as a work-study student in October 1997. Since then, I have held various roles within the Financial Aid Office, continuing my commitment to supporting students' financial needs.

DESCRIBE YOUR AVERAGE DAY:
A typical day includes helping students with their financial aid questions via email, phone, and in both in-person and virtual appointments. I also attend meetings with other departments to solve problems and look for ways to improve our processes.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?
I am passionate about problem-solving and analyzing the diverse scenarios we encounter within financial aid. The ever-evolving nature of this field presents unique and engaging challenges. I also greatly appreciate the opportunity to work alongside my colleagues, both within financial aid and across other departments. It often takes a collaborative effort between offices to effectively navigate and overcome these challenges.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE MEMORY OR STORY ABOUT YOUR TIME HERE?
I have many positive memories, and most of them share a common theme. Over the years, I've helped several students from the time they started at the university until they graduated. Seeing those students walk across the stage at graduation and knowing I played a small role in their educational journey brings me great joy. It’s always memorable when a student thanks me for supporting them during their time at UTRGV.

TELL US SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU:
I have held seven different positions within the Financial Aid Office.

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE UTRGV COMMUNITY?
I truly love this university, and I proudly support its growth. I actively advocate for UTRGV whenever possible, and I strive to assist and answer questions in public on my own time. If a student or parent recognizes me and has questions, I do not hesitate to assist them. I understand that even brief interactions can positively influence someone’s decision to attend UTRGV.
