RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – NOV. 25, 2025 – The legacy of Drs. Sarojini and Subhash Bose continues to grow at UTRGV with the naming of two new spaces: the Dr. Sarojini Bose Nursing Skills Laboratory and the Dr. Ashley Bose Study Room.
Both are located in the Health Affairs Building East on the UTRGV Edinburg Campus, further cementing the Bose family’s longstanding advocacy for UTRGV students. Previous Bose contributions have supported scholarships, student success and collaborative research initiatives across healthcare and engineering.
“This is a truly transformative gift, and their legacy now will be forever woven into the fabric of these programs,” said Dr. Michael Lehker, dean of the College of Health Professions and senior vice president for Health Affairs, in his opening remarks at the naming reception.
Dr. Sarojini Bose, a pediatrician and CEO of Ashley Pediatrics Day and Night Clinics, and Dr. Subhash Bose, a retired UTRGV emeritus professor of Manufacturing Engineering, focus their philanthropy on expanding educational opportunities in health, science, math and engineering.
Their daughter, Dr. Ashley Bose, a physician and UTRGV alumna who holds two degrees from the university, continues the family tradition of service. Named in her honor, the study room offers nursing students a welcoming environment for learning.
The newly named spaces now foster interdisciplinary cooperation, providing students with enhanced opportunities to learn and train together, given the Bose family’s gift and the collaborative leadership of Dr. Lilia A. Fuentes, dean of the School of Nursing, in sharing the Nursing Skills Lab with the Physician Assistant program.
“The lab now features high-fidelity simulation mannequins that allow students to practice real patient scenarios in a safe, controlled environment,” Fuentes said. “This helps prepare them for the challenges of modern healthcare.”
Dr. Subhash Bose said the family commitment to education and healthcare extends beyond campus at their three community centers. As part of their gift, the family is creating pathways for UTRGV students to engage with these centers, teaching subjects ranging from health and business to education and STEM.
He said he hopes this partnership not only helps ease the students’ academic journey by helping them focus on their studies, but also gives them real-world experience by applying what they have learned in the classroom.
In particular, he hopes UTRGV nursing and physician assistant students one day will contribute to these efforts, further connecting their training with community needs.
To commemorate the occasion, the UTRGV Division of Institutional Advancement presented the Bose family with a glass plaque.
“Your investment in our students is an investment in the health and well-being of our entire community,” Lehker said.
