EDINBURG, TEXAS – OCT. 21, 2025 – The UTRGV Theatre Department invites audiences to get ready for a wild musical ride with Richard O’Brien’s “The Rocky Horror Show,” a cult classic filled with outrageous humor, high-energy rock songs and unforgettable characters.

Performances will take place from Oct. 24-26 and Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at the Albert L. Jeffers Theatre in the Liberal Arts Building South (ELABS) on the UTRGV Edinburg Campus, located at 1201 W. University Drive. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. nightly, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Oct. 26.

Directed by Richard Edmonson, lecturer III in the Department of Theatre, the production follows sweethearts Brad and Janet, who, after getting stranded during a storm, seek shelter in the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. There, they encounter a houseful of eccentric characters, from a rocking biker to a mysterious butler, and witness Frank-N-Furter’s latest creation, a muscular man named “Rocky.”

Edmonson said that the show was a natural fit for this year’s theatre season and highly requested by students.

“The cast, crews and designers are very enthusiastic about this production. Most of them have learned about ‘Rocky’ from their parents or have seen the film with their parents or grew up listening to the score.”

Known for its bold humor and themes of sexual exploration, “The Rocky Horror Show” remains one of theatre’s most iconic cult experiences. Edmonson said that the audience can expect bright and vibrant costumes, sets and lights.

“There is an 18 and over entry requirement,” Edmonson said. “In this version, I highlight the look and feel of 1960s sci-fi movies that the story pays homage to.”

Adding to the excitement, one performance will include a special late-night twist.

“The 10 p.m. Halloween show will incorporate audience participation via props and callouts,” he said.

Edmonson hopes audiences “enjoy a fun evening of entertainment with family and friends.”

Featuring elaborate dance numbers, live rock music and plenty of over-the-top fun, “The Rocky Horror Show” has earned its place as one of theatre’s most iconic and interactive experiences.
