RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – JUNE 5, 2025 – As school lets out for summer, families are on the lookout for exciting ways to keep their children active, engaged and productive. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley has stepped up to the plate, offering a diverse range of summer camps for children of all ages. These camps, running from June to August in Edinburg and Brownsville, promise both fun and educational experiences.

ACADEMIC ADVENTURES

UTCRS STEM Summer Camps (Grades 3-12)

Unleash your child’s inner engineer! The Railway Safety Summer Camp introduces students to the thrilling world of transportation engineering through hands-on activities. Participants will tackle real-world problems and explore exciting topics like robotics and magnetic levitation.

C-STEM Summer Camps

The C-STEM camps offer engaging, hands-on experiences that promote curiosity and critical thinking. Students will explore various fields and develop valuable skills in a supportive environment.

  • High School Camp (Grades 9-12): June 23-27, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Future Engineers Summer Camp (Grades 7-12)

This camp aims to inspire interest in engineering and technology careers by increasing awareness and understanding of opportunities within the fields.

TX CIPHER Summer Camp (Grades 9-12)

The Texas Cybersecurity Introduction Program for High School Education and Readiness (CIPHER) Camp is an immersive experience where participants will explore foundational concepts in cybersecurity including network safety, encryption, password security and digital defense strategies.

FUN & FITNESS

Camp UREC

Get ready for fitness and friendship! Camp UREC is designed for kids ages 6-11, offering a range of activities from team sports to swimming. This camp promises to inspire a lifelong love for fitness through fun and engaging games.

FUNDAMENTALS & SKILLS

Athletics Summer Camps

UTRGV Athletics offers a variety of summer camps running through July. Athletes can improve their skills in sports like volleyball, football and basketball, learning directly from UTRGV coaches and student-athletes. ARTISTIC PURSUITS

Summer Saxophone Ensemble

The ensemble is open to high school saxophonists in grades 9-12. Participants will have rehearsals and a final concert featuring both large ensemble and chamber music groups.

Vaquero Youth Band Camp
For aspiring musicians ages 12-17, the Vaquero Youth Band Camp offers expert instruction in wind instruments, percussion, and color guard. This camp is a fantastic opportunity to improve skills and make music with peers.

UTRGV Young Artists Piano Camp (Grades 5-12)

Young pianists, upgrade your skills and knowledge with internationally renowned pianists and teachers – Daniel Steenken and Carolyn True.

STRIVE Drama Camp (Grades 3-11)

STRIVE (South Texas Remarkably Inventive Vaquero Ensemble) aims to establish children's theatre in the Rio Grande Valley by providing training in twelve areas, including improvisation, communication, problem-solving, vocal skills, movement, emotional expression, ensemble acting, and technical theatre.

ABOUT UTRGV

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine and a School of Podiatry, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, Weslaco, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City and South Padre Island.
