Kimberly Grimaldo

Presidential Research Fellowship - June 2021

"Being in the MAS program as an undergraduate was rewarding as it allowed me to explore my Mexican American culture and heritage. I was also afforded the opportunity to present in conferences such as the NACCS Tejas Foco as well as the UTRGV Engaged Scholar Virtual Showcase, where I received the Distinguished Scholar Award. These experiences inspired me to continue in the MAS graduate program. I have been truly fortunate to work with and be mentored by the MAS faculty. This past spring, I was awarded the UTRGV Presidential Research Fellowship. I will be working with Dr. Cathryn Merla-Watson to research how food represents and embodies the rich cultural knowledge and history in the Río Grande Valley. This prestigious Research Fellowship brings me one step closer to achieving my next goal: a PhD."
