Ongoing Phishing Attacks

Dear UTRGV Community,

The University has observed an increase in phishing emails targeting students, faculty, and staff. These messages are being sent from external Gmail accounts and commonly reference “student support offers”,  “contest opportunities” or “internships”.

Information Technology has implemented measures to block and purge many of these emails. However, some phishing messages may still reach inboxes.

What you should do:

  • Do not click on links or open attachments in unexpected or suspicious emails.
  • Do not reply or provide personal or financial information.
  • Report suspicious messages using the Report Phishing option in Outlook or forward them to the IT Services at abuse@utrgv.edu.

Keep in mind:

  • If an email sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.
  • Anyone asking for your user ID and password is a scammer.
  • Anyone offering an unbelievable part-time job that pays a high amount is most likely a scammer.

Your awareness and prompt reporting are essential to protecting the UTRGV community.

Thank you for your continued vigilance.
