SAWYER SEMINAR SERIES PRESENTS THE US-MEXICO BORDER REGIME: TRAUMA, HOSPITALITY, ART, AND PROTEST
Dear Faculty, Students and Staff
We are pleased to invite you to join us on March 7th and 8th for the Sawyer Seminar Series – The US-Mexico Border Regime: Trauma, Hospitality, Art, and Protest.
As part of the event, Dr. Ronald Rael, Professor of Architecture at University of California Berkeley and author of Border as Architecture: A Manifesto for the US-Mexico Boundary, will deliver a keynote speech on Tuesday, March 7th at 5:00 in the Jeffers Theater (ELABS 106) and on zoom.

We are so excited to have Dr. Rael on our UTRGV campus and hope many faculty and students will take the opportunity to hear him talk and engage in conversation with him.
Dr. Rael designed the pink seesaws through the border wall that became well-known nationally and internationally, allowing kids on both sides of the border to play together. He has also theorized on many other ways to transform and utilize the border wall and has written more broadly and critically on the US-Mexico borderlands and border wall. He has also received the extremely prestigious Beazley award in design.
This is also an opportunity to meet Carrie Preston, the Center on Forced Displacement Associate Director at Boston University, and to have conversations with other faculty and students from Boston University on issues related to global borders and mobility.
