Graduate Degree Programs

The department offers a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) with a concentration in Electrical Engineering. The program has thesis and non-thesis options.

Thesis Option

Course Requirements (30 credit hours)

  • 18 credits of regularly scheduled, graduate level electrical engineering courses taken at UTRGV.  The following types of courses may NOT be counted in this category:  transfer courses from other institutions,  courses taken in other departments, independent study or individual instruction courses,  coop/intern courses.
  • 6 credits of approved graduate level coursework.   This category may include additional regular graduate electrical engineering courses,  transfer courses from other institutions, courses taken in other departments, independent study or individual instruction, and coop/intern courses.   Courses should be relevant to the student's program of work and require advisor approval.
  • 3 credits of ELEE 7300 Thesis I
  • 3 credits of ELEE 7301 Thesis II

Additional Requirements

  • Students must pass a thesis defense.  The thesis defense also counts as the student's comprehensive examination.
  • Students must complete a thesis in its entirety, including approval of content and format by their thesis committee and by the Graduate College.
  • Note that students may need to register multiple times for ELEE 7300 and/or ELEE 7301 in order to complete the thesis.  Students must follow the continuous registration requirements listed in the UTRGV graduate catalog.

Non-Thesis Option

Course Requirements (30 credit hours)
