Participation in the Vaqueros Discount Program is free.  

The discount should be valid for one year and may be renewed annually. 

Businesses may offer percentage discounts, dollar-off discounts, or special promotions, subject to program guidelines. 

Only the business locations listed and approved on the Vaqueros Discount Program website are required to honor the discount.

Offering a discount does not constitute official sponsorship, partnership, or endorsement by UTRGV. As such, we ask that you follow the below guidelines should you choose to promote your participation in the Vaqueros Discount Program:  

Use of University Name and Intellectual Property 

• You may reference the university in a factual manner, in written form. Examples: 
  • “Proud member of the Vaqueros Discount Program”
  • “Offering a X% discount to UTRGV students, faculty, and staff” 
• Please do not use any university logos, trademarks, mascots, or other UTRGV-branded graphics in your advertising, social media, or promotional materials without prior written approval.
• Plain Text Permitted: Inclusion in the program allows vendors to state their participation in standard text. It does not permit the use of university logos, branded graphic elements, or co-branded design assets, as these can create the false impression of an official partnership or endorsement.
• On-Site Display Materials: To help signify your participation at your business location, we will provide you with an official window decal for your entrance and a 3'x5' display flag. (While supplies last.)
• Participation in the Vaqueros Discount Program does not include campus outreach, co-branding, or direct sponsorship of student organizations or university departments. While businesses are always welcome to engage with campus entities or student groups separately through standard university channels or sponsorship opportunities, those activities are managed outside of the Vaqueros Discount Program and remain subject to standard institutional guidelines. 

Sponsorship Language Restrictions 

• Please do not describe your business as an “official sponsor”, “partner”, or otherwise “endorsed by” UTRGV.
• Acceptable language includes general and factual statements. Example: “Proud to support UTRGV students”
• References to the Vaquero mascot, sub-logos, or any licensed university marks are prohibited in vendor graphics, copy, and promotional materials. Using these elements creates the impression of an official sponsorship or institutional collaboration, which falls outside the scope of the Vaqueros Discount Program. 

Reviewing  

• If you plan to promote your participation in the Vaquero Discount Program through social media, flyers, or other marketing materials, please send your draft(s) to UMC@UTRGV.edu prior to publishing or printing.
• Once reviewed, you will receive feedback or approval to ensure they align with UTRGV's marketing and branding guidelines. 

Note: For businesses interested in deeper engagement with UTRGV students and campus organizations, the best pathway would be through a formal corporate sponsorship or partnership opportunity, which allows for additional collaboration and visibility opportunities.  

Yes. It is the responsibility of the business to notify the Vaqueros Discount Program administrator to modify or discontinue its discount. Discounts are assumed to be active otherwise. To update your discount information, please email Discounts@UTRGV.edu.  

No, inclusion in the Vaqueros Discount Program does not constitute endorsement by The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

UTRGV does not guarantee or assume responsibility for any products or services offered by participating vendors. 

Yes. Businesses are eligible to receive the following (while supplies last): 

• a complimentary 5 inches X 5 inches sticker that has the UTRGV over TX logo and states “Proud Member of the UTRGV Vaqueros Discount Program”.
• a 3 feet X 5 feet flag that states “Vaqueros Discount Program”. 

Please showcase the sticker and/or flag at your business, so UTRGV staff, students, and faculty may recognize that your business provides a discount.
