Artist Statement

personal logoArt has inscribed itself into the very essence of my being since those earliest moments of wielding a crayon. No other force has shaped—or could shape—my identity with such profound depth as the creative process, which in my mind manifests as distinctly as a fingerprint in each individual it touches. My work bears the indelible marks of countless influences: contemporary peers whose paths have intersected with mine, masters whose careers I've studied, and luminaries of ages past whose creative legacy transcends their time on Earth. Though I have immersed myself in every conceivable medium, exploring both traditional academic settings and unconventional spaces, visual communication design has emerged as my most intimate form of expression. What captivates me is the liminal space where digital innovation meets tactile craftsmanship—it is here that I find the power to compress narratives and emotions into a single page, master the new visual and technical languages, and access an ever-expanding arsenal of creative possibilities that exists within the confines of my screen. I maintain that art, irrespective of its overt political messaging, is intrinsically a political act. Each work serves as a crucible wherein the creator's convictions, cultural context, and lived experiences coalesce—an interplay of ideological frameworks and aesthetic preferences. My most profound contribution, regardless of where my creative and professional journey leads, lies in my unapologetic presence as a female designer who has steadfastly refused to diminish or obscure this fundamental aspect of my identity. I aspire to serve as a beacon for the next generation of young women, particularly those who harbor the misapprehension that success in this field demands the suppression of their authentic selves— those who feel compelled to conceal their natural affinity for the exuberant, the whimsical, the deliberately excessive, and the ornate. My mission is to demonstrate that one can transform design into a playground of experimentation while maintaining professional legitimacy and artistic credibility.

Central to my creative philosophy is the reimagining of design spaces as territories of delight and innovation, challenging the presumption that corporate aesthetics must inevitably conform to sterile, homogeneous conventions. I seek to form a harmonious marriage between professional sophistication and unbridled creative expression. I sit. I open my MacBook. I stare blankly at the screen for 30 minutes. I go on social media and see all the amazing work designers my age are making. I give up for the night and repeat this same process the next day. The thing is you HAVE to fail to make any sort of progress. Yet, I have come to understand that failure is not merely an obstacle but a fundamental catalyst for artistic evolution. Recently, I encountered online discourse about the transformative moment every designer experiences—that singular work that marks a quantum leap in their creative journey. Throughout my penultimate semester, this transcendent moment eluded me entirely. To speak with unflinching honesty: I sucked at all I tried. Paradoxically, this period of creative drought proved invaluable. Thrust beyond the confines of my artistic comfort zone, I was compelled to forge a more profound connection with my work, scrutinizing it through both technical and deeply personal lenses. My self-confidence wavered; I grappled with visions of a future where my creative faculties would lie dormant in professional obscurity, unused and unnecessary. This crisis of confidence, however, served as a powerful agent of humility—a necessary deconstruction of ego that revealed the vast expanse of knowledge yet to be acquired. My approach has since transformed: I now embrace methodical research, meticulous planning, and perhaps most crucially, the wisdom to recognize when to pause. The pursuit of creation without genuine inspiration, I discovered through hard-won experience, yields nothing of lasting value.
