Artist Statement
Creativity has always been a defining aspect of my identity. From an early age, I was drawn to artistic expression, whether through drawing, playing the violin, or exploring digital tools. Music has played a significant role in shaping my creative approach, teaching me the importance of rhythm, structure, and emotion—elements that naturally translate into my design work. My interest in technology further expanded my artistic perspective. In high school, I was introduced to Adobe Photoshop through my involvement in online gaming communities, particularly within Call of Duty. The process of creating and editing content for YouTube introduced me to the power of visual storytelling and sparked my passion for design. Through my education at UTRGV, I have developed a deeper appreciation for design as a means of communication. Without effective communication, ideas lose their impact, and I see design as a bridge that connects people, culture, and information. Photography, much like design and music, tells stories, evokes emotion, and influences society. My goal is to push modern design forward while honoring tradition and cultural heritage, recognizing that understanding the past is just as essential as shaping the future.
As a proud Texan and Mexican-American, my identity informs my creative work, inspiring me to incorporate cultural narratives while remaining open to diverse perspectives. My process begins with research and photography, allowing me to explore different viewpoints, gather inspiration, and develop meaningful design solutions. Balancing creativity and functionality is central to my approach. I strive to create work that is both visually compelling and effective in its purpose. Collaboration is essential, and I actively seek feedback from fellow designers to refine my ideas. When faced with creative challenges, I step away to reset—whether through music, gardening, or observing the world around me. Even when I am not actively designing, I am constantly engaging with design in everyday life, always looking for new sources of inspiration. At its core, my work is about storytelling and problem-solving. I welcome challenges as opportunities for growth, knowing that adaptability is key to evolving as a designer. My goal is to create work that not only inspires but also serves a purpose—designs that communicate, connect, and leave a lasting impact.
