Artist Statement
Ever since I was little, I have always loved drawing. I would buy books on how to draw and try my best to replicate the finished drawings the best I possibly could, as well as just drawing anything I would see and anything that I would imagine. That love only increased throughout the years! I was never happier than when I was sketching and listening to music, off in my little corner of the world. Being challenged creatively was always one of my favorite parts of school. Thinking outside the box and getting to use my artistic skills is where I always felt most at home. When it comes to art, it’s all about practice and studying the basics, and although one must put many hours of hard work in practice, it never felt like a tedious task, but a fun and rewarding journey. Fast forward to around eighth grade when I had to start taking more of a definitive route for who I wanted to be, I decided that I wanted to have a career in the arts, anything that let me be creative. I really love that art is a universal language, something that speaks for itself without having to use any words. Which means that art can reach the hearts of many and touch them in some way, whether it made them laugh, cry, smile, or perhaps it made them feel seen in a way they never thought possible. That to me is one of the most beautiful feelings in the world and one of the main reasons I love art so much. This influenced my decision to have a career in the arts, because I wanted to be able to create something that touched somebody's heart in a way that so many amazing artists have done for me. Therefore, Graphic design seemed like the perfect route for me to take as a major in college, because I get to do all the things that I love. Taking this path has led me to be taught by so many incredible and talented professors who I am very grateful for. My professors have had patience for me, motivated me, and given me advice that made me grow as an artist, as a graphic designer, and even as a person. As graphic designers, our creations can be the face of the company or a crucial factor in the look of a company, so I see a lot of importance in what we do. Especially now a days with there being so many businesses blooming Online in the age of social media, there is a lot of work for us out there. I am excited to go off into the world and put everything I have learned to good use and be the best graphic designer I can be!
