Artist Statement

personal logoMy journey as an artist/designer technically started in pre-school. I liked to draw whatever interest I had or story I wanted to tell. I remember that for elementary school I would grade my fellow classmates test and decorate the grade they received with marker or color pencil that I think can be considered my first step towards graphic design. It wasn’t until high school that I decided to give graphic design a try as a career path as I was already starting to get into art at the time and wanted something innovative and that allowed me to use my creativity. I have been interested in wanting to learn software such as Photoshop, used for design and art. I could not possibly imagine the skills I have obtained from using these applications within the pandemic to present times.

For me, what is important about my work is for it to be unique in how it is created, or in some way to be eccentric. I think it is important to think outside of the box. Personally, I do not really believe that my work will become well-known, but it will be impressive if it ever does, however the way I hope it impacts others is to encourage them to experiment and be playful with design. I tend to view what others have done in the past for references and ideas and strive to use it as an inspiration to create my own thing.

Usually, it’s hard for me to begin a project as I tend to think of the many outcomes for a solution but do not know which one will be the best or successful. However, after identifying at least one problem, it helps to decide which idea will work and which one will not. My way of brainstorming is to view the works of others from many sources to also get the visual idea on how to solve the problem. I start on my sketches as soon as my ideas are more organized and based on the feedback, decide to work on the sketch that seems to be the solution of the problem.
