Exhibit Work

Usually, when people would leave a show in the '80s, there would always be people standing outside handing them flyers to the next show, which has lasted through the decades. This concept inspired me to explore it for my senior exhibit. The idea of Boys Don't Cry derives from my love for music and bands, which I have grown to cherish ever since I first started listening to music. I have always wondered how fun creating a band and its overall aesthetic would be. The name Boys Don't Cry, specifically, is inspired by Frank Ocean's 'Boys Don't Cry' magazine publication which was released as a companion piece to the album 'Blonde,' one of my favorite music works by him. Therefore, I created an indie punk band based here in the Rio Grande Valley for my senior exhibit. I wanted to challenge myself and capture this vintage punk aesthetic for the band, and I could do so by experimenting and, in a way, manifesting my DIY version of Dada art.
Nevertheless, I am very passionate about design, and having practiced and learned throughout my time here at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, has made me realize that it was natural to create something that sparked my interest in this exhibit; enjoy!
