Artist Statement
As a young girl, I would always spend my time watching cartoons such as Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, and my personal favorite SpongeBob. I would also watch many animated movies as I grew up and watching my family (my parents and older sister) create things by hand gave me inspiration and an urge to draw and be creative, too. My mom, even now, often creates cards, invitations, and all kinds of party decorations by hand. While my dad draws and makes wooden objects for fun or for a job, and my sister would draw and do hair art for projects in high school. I began by drawing cartoon characters before moving to animals as I had wanted to be a Vet in elementary school and my family has always owned many pets throughout my life. As I grew older, I began to get passionate about writing and video games as I felt both were very interesting and inspirational forms of art with plenty of potential, especially video games. My goals in life changed to wanting to be someone involved in the game design process along with one day creating a compelling story that would be appreciated by others. Once I graduated from high school, I began to investigate colleges and careers that would and could help foster my love for art and design. I investigated the Graphic Design program as it was very diverse, and it touched many forms of art and skills that motivated me and encouraged me to expand my skills on knowledge on the subject.
As for my work, I truly invest so much care and time, and everything I create or work on is equally important, no matter how large or small the project is. I work on every single detail myself until I get the end results, I picture my work to be. It is important that my work is enjoyable and of high quality to myself. I hope that my art can one day inspire and bring joy to others. I want to make others as passionate about art as I am. I hope to one day create something that many others will explore and are just as passionate about as me. I generally start my work by quickly writing down the first ideas that pop into my head as soon as I hear what my assignment is. I tend to explore my first idea and write down how this idea would work or could look like. Also, exploring the idea in alternatives ways that could work or not, and choosing whichever one speaks to me the most. Once my sketches are down, I usually ask for other’s opinions on the best one and then develop the idea further. Once I have a digital sketch, I refine and take critique until the final product is done. If I come across a problem, I think about different ways of changing it or fixing it. I always figure out a way to manage or solve the problem by any means necessary.
