Artist Statement
Growing up, I was always a bit of an odd child. I often struggled to express myself or articulate my emotions through spoken word, so I sought out more unconventional ways to communicate. Over time, I discovered that art could speak for me in ways words couldn’t. Whether it was drawing pictures for people, crafting fake flowers, or doodling on their hands, art became my way of showing affection and connection. In many ways, it was my first language. As I grew older, my connection to art evolved into something deeper, something more purposeful. It was no longer just a way for me to express my emotions—it became a means of building bridges between myself and others. I discovered that the same artistic language that helped me express myself could also be used to translate the ideas and visions of other people. This shift led me toward design, a practice where I could help people communicate through creativity, transforming ideas into tangible realities.
I forged a special connection with print media early in my design journey. The beauty of creating something tangible, something that people could hold and cherish, captivated me from the moment I designed my first postcard. There's something timeless about print—the way it ages with time, its ability to evoke memories, and its physical presence in a world increasingly dominated by digital media. Each design tells its own story, becoming part of someone’s everyday life—a poster on the wall, a book cover on a shelf, or a package waiting to be opened. Print design allows me to craft pieces that are not only visually compelling but also objects of permanence in a fleeting world. This connection to design goes beyond personal fulfillment—it’s about building trust with clients and creating something meaningful for them. For me, design is about translating their ideas, even those unspoken, into reality. It’s a collaboration, a way of communicating without words. The framed posters you pass in movie theatres, the packaging of your favorite tea, the cover of the book you picked up on your way home; these seemingly simple items carry stories, emotions, and creativity, all brought to life through design. I hope that my work can breathe life into the everyday, helping people to pause and appreciate the artistry within even the smallest things. My goal is to share the joy of creation, making the world feel just a little more connected through the things we often overlook.
