Artist Statement
While studying at UTRGV, my art history classes became a transformative experience that awakened my senses to the vibrant tapestry and rich imagery of my cultural heritage. Each lecture and discussion deepened my appreciation for the artistic traditions, illuminating the profound connections between art and culture. This journey has not been a linear path; rather, it has been a winding road, taking me from wanderer, tech enthusiast, from mother to teacher, and ultimately, to artist on a journey. Each role has contributed to my creative evolution, enriching my perspective and fueling my passion for expression.
As a wanderer, I sought inspiration in the diverse landscapes and communities I encountered. These experiences grounded my artistic vision in the everyday beauty of life, prompting me to capture the essence of my surroundings in my work. My background in technology provided me with the tools to explore new mediums and techniques, allowing me to blend traditional artistry with modern innovation. This fusion not only enhances my creative output but also reflects the dynamic nature of our contemporary world. My journey as a mother has been equally influential, teaching me the importance of nurturing creativity and curiosity. It has instilled in me a desire to create art that resonates with a sense of warmth, connection, and legacy—pieces that can be cherished and passed down, much like stories shared across generations. As a teacher, I have had the privilege of guiding others in their artistic pursuits, reinforcing the idea that art is a collaborative and communal endeavor. Each student’s unique voice inspires me and reminds me of the endless possibilities that lie within the creative process. Above all, I recognize that this journey has been made possible by God and my commitment to trusting the process. Faith has been my anchor, guiding me through challenges and uncertainties, and reminding me to embrace both the struggles and triumphs along the way. Each setback has become a steppingstone, teaching me resilience and the importance of perseverance in the pursuit of my artistic vision.
