Our imagination works in fascinating ways. From the moment I began schooling, and I was exposed to many different ideas, my creativity sparked. Rapidly I began to feel connected to art, I would become deeply engaged in assignments that required creativity. My home always had crayons, markers, and paints, on my free time I spent drawing, building, or painting. My passion for creating and creativity comes from my parents. My parents have always encouraged me to express my creativity and embrace my authentic self. My father’s talent for building and his ability to create something out of nothing captivated me. As I grew older, I found myself contemplating what path I should take towards my future. I weighed my options between business, architecture, interior design, and ultimately graphic design. It was my first semester of college that marked my decision to pursue a degree in graphic design. My interest in communication design arose when I was searching for a career that merged design and media. Recognizing the ongoing growth of social media, I sought a secure and fulfilling profession. Although at first, I struggled with illustrating compared to my peers, I found a solution and discovered that I could transition my designs digitally, showcasing my capabilities. I love being able to put my ideas into designs and see them evolve. As a visual learner, I find it essential to document my thoughts on paper and then translate them into beautiful sketches. The initial brainstorming process and sketching are a vital part for me because once the sketches are made, I begin to generate even more ideas. All my ideas get explored, they get taken into consideration and I develop them further. The process can cause many challenges including limited software knowledge, time constraints, artist block, or other designer problems, but I always aim to work with the process. Nevertheless, I approach these obstacles as opportunities for growth. I look for alternatives that will allow me to continue and work on my project. Most of the time I resort to research and advice from other designers to guide me with either techniques or advice on a project. To me, my work shows a part of my personality, dedication, work ethic, and style. I aspire to show people the expressive quality of work I can create. I hope my work can someday encourage society to express themselves in ways they did not think of before. One day my work can be the spark that inspires someone to choose the path of becoming a graphic designer. We can all learn something from one another, and the problem-solving stage is where I learn the most. The work and dedication I put into my design are for my parents and all the sacrifices they have made for my education and professional growth.
