Exhibit Work

This exhibit project was personal to me. As a Hispanic, going to the movies as a family was something we did not often do. One of the many reasons for this was language barriers. Coming from a Mexican family, my parents only speak Spanish. The theater is a wonderful place that offers immersive experiences through its showings, but unfortunately, the English language dominates most of the showings. Nevertheless, I believe that they, along with other Hispanics who want to experience the theater, deserve the opportunity to do so without feeling excluded or disconnected from the experience.

Creating Motorcine Drive-In was an idea that sparked from this issue. One of the many things that Hispanics value is family. I wanted to create a theater that welcomed the Hispanic community to come and share a movie experience as a family. The factor of making it a drive-in movie rather than a regular cinema was to create an ambiance for families to feel free to socialize. In a typical movie theater, you're confined to a single seat, often in complete silence, as the expectation is to remain quiet and respectful to others around you. This can create a sense of separation and discourage the natural flow of conversation and connection that often happens within families. You would be encouraged to share your thoughts and make yourself comfortable in a less restrictive environment. It would showcase movies in Spanish allowing families to enjoy movies without the barrier of translation or subtitles. In addition, it would account for other aspects that are important to the community, like creating an inclusive and family-friendly atmosphere and even hosting special events or community nights. The drive-in would prioritize accessibility, ensuring that everyone, regardless of background or ability, can enjoy the ultimate drive-in movie experience. Hispanic communities are often made up of large families, which is one of the key reasons I want to offer affordable pricing. It’s important to make the theater experience accessible to everyone, regardless of family size or budget. In addition, we would cater to Hispanic cuisine, serving foods from our local vendors here in the valley to show support. The idea is to transform this theater into a place of inclusivity and bonding, a place where all people are welcome to get together to celebrate the richness of Hispanic culture. Most importantly, always putting the customers first and being mindful of the customers' needs. Ultimately, this theater would be a beacon of unity and pride, fostering an appreciation for Hispanic culture while encouraging dialogue, understanding, and a sense of belonging among all who drive through the gates.
