Artist Statement
Art, for me, is a way of making sense of complex emotions and ideas, especially when grappling with the feeling of being an outsider or of not quite belonging. My work often looks playful and colorful on the surface, drawing inspiration from the lively world of cartoons, animation, and bold typography. But these vibrant elements are just one layer; underneath lies a more introspective exploration of existential themes like identity, belonging, and purpose. This contrast—between lighthearted visuals and deeper ideas—adds a unique tension to my art, creating something that can be both inviting and thought-provoking. By blending the bright, familiar tones of childhood inspiration with themes that question and examine human nature, I aim to capture attention and invite viewers into an experience that resonates on multiple levels. My goal is to bridge the lighthearted with the contemplative, hoping that viewers can connect with the pieces on both a playful and introspective level.
My creative process is often spontaneous and intuitive, guided by what moves me in the moment. Inspiration can come from a powerful painting, a line in a philosophical text, a piece of music, or even conversations with friends. When I encounter creative blocks, I turn to my favorite films, shows, or the insights of those close to me to help me rediscover new perspectives or push through creative boundaries. Each piece of work becomes a journey of exploration, allowing ideas to evolve and unfold in unexpected ways. Ultimately, I hope my art resonates with viewers by offering them a sense of connection, like they’re finding pieces of their own experiences, emotions, or questions reflected back. Whether it’s a moment of humor, nostalgia, or introspection, I want my art to encourage viewers to reflect on what it means to be human. By inviting people to pause and ponder, I aim to create work that is both entertaining and meaningful, sparking curiosity and encouraging a deeper engagement with the ideas within each piece.
