For my exhibit project, I decided to do it on blind box figures which I have been obsessing with for a while now. I love opening the box package and seeing what cute figurines I got. You're probably asking yourself what are blind boxes? Well, I’ll tell you! Blind boxes are sealed packaging boxes that contain one of the designer’s figurines from a specific series, but the catch is that you don’t know which specific design you're getting until you open the package. So, I created Moon Smile, an art toy and pop culture company. That design and creates cute arty figurines for our customers to enjoy, we specialize in the blind box series. What is unique about Moon Smiles is the mystery of what figurines you are going to get. The feeling of natural curiosity and desire for excitement is what gets customers to buy the blind boxes. Here is some information on art toys or also known as designer toys. Designer toys are toys and collectibles created by artists and designers that are either self-produced or made by small, independent toy companies. These designer toys serve as a vast canvas to let artists unleash their endless creativity and exemplify the fusion of fine art and playfulness. Artists use a variety of materials, like ABS plastic, vinyl, wood, metal, latex, plush and resin to create figurines. The first art toys appeared in in the 1990s in Hong Kong and Japan.

This blind box series centers around a cute bunny called Mochi that I created for this project. I chose a bunny because this year in the Chinese lunar calendar it is the year of the rabbits, and it was also the year of the rabbits when I was born. So, I figured why not a bunny. The design style is based on other kawaii icons that everyone knows and loves. Since this exhibit is happening during the falls, I wanted to do a Halloween theme for my character Mochi. So, you will see them in different classic Halloween costumes like a mummy, a werewolf, a vampire, and more! You will see in this exhibit the package boxes of the series and the figure of Mochi the bunny. Which I made it from foaming clay and air-dry clay and then painted it. I used the main poster design for the package design of the boxes. Overall, I wanted to create a cute design for Mochi and the brand for all to enjoy!
