COVID-19 Update: Facial Covering/Shelter in Place

Wednesday, April 8, 2020 :: University Marketing & Communication

More local cities and counties have issued orders requiring residents to wear facial coverings in public areas. Information on county orders can be found on their social media pages listed here.

While most of UTRGV’s operations are already being conducted remotely, the university realizes there are some students, faculty and staff who continue accessing our campus/off-campus facilities. Therefore, to comply with local orders, we are providing free UTRGV bandanas to ensure those campus community members have proper facial covering.

Bandanas may be picked up, while supplies last, at our police departments in Brownsville, Edinburg and Harlingen. Each location currently has 200 bandanas to distribute.

Brownsville Campus: 2671 FJRM Avenue
Edinburg Campus: 501 N. Sugar Road
Harlingen Campus: 2102 Treasure Hills Boulevard

Shelter In Place

UTRGV is a state agency and Governor Abbott has issued an order - similar to the shelter-in-place orders issued by local counties and cities — requiring state services to be provided through telecommuting unless they are essential services that cannot be provided through telecommuting.

While UTRGV provides essential services, most of our operations are already being conducted remotely. If, however, you must access campus/off campus facilities, please remember to carry a UTRGV ID at all times as evidence of your essential status with the university.

Essential employees who must report to campus/off-campus facility daily must also carry the letter provided to them by Human Resources that states their essential status. If you have been designated an essential employee and need a letter, please send your request to hrpartners@utrgv.edu.

As always, thank you for your patience during this extremely fluid situation. Our main concern continues to be the health, safety, and security of our UTRGV community.

Please regularly check your email for the latest updates or visit our resource webpage.

As always, if you have any questions please reach out to your supervisor for guidance or email coronavirus@utrgv.edu.
