A Message from Dr. Guy Bailey

Friday, March 27, 2020 :: Office of the President

Dear UTRGV Family,

These are unprecedented times. Many of us around the country have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This week we transitioned to remote instruction for the spring semester and our UTRGV students are adjusting to this new reality.

As with any disruption to the norm comes hardship. Many of our students have lost jobs they depend on, some incurred unexpected moving and travel expenses, while others are unable to return home to be with their families.

We all face this crisis together, and I am confident that together we will get through it. Our students are the light guiding us through this period of uncertainty; our commitment to them will not waver. I am deeply moved by the many alumni and friends who have already reached out and shown a desire to help. This is a testament to the true spirit of the Rio Grande Valley.

Our students need our support now more than ever. We must not allow the educational goals of our students to be compromised by housing and food insecurities, loss of income, emergency travel expenses or any other unforeseen financial challenges.

If you would like to help our students in need, you can visit our website and make a gift to the UTRGV Student Emergency Fund. One hundred percent of every dollar given will directly benefit and provide relief to a student in need.

This is truly a generation-defining moment. We are not defined by the challenge itself, but by how we respond. In a time like this we need every member of the UTRGV Family to rally and demonstrate our strength and generosity. We will get through this. Together.

I will be making my gift today, and I ask you to join me.

Thank you for your consideration.

Dr. Guy Bailey
