The UTRGV Counseling Center  recognizes that current times come with their own set of life changes, stressors, and potential added challenges to accessing resources for your overall emotional wellbeing. Telemental  health counseling Secure and confidential online individual, couples, and group therapy is available. Tele-health mental health counseling sessions are held over UTRGV Skype for Business or UTRGV ZOOM. Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) : The CRP hosts online support groups and other programs to assist students in the process of recovery from addictions.   BASICS  and   CASICS  are judgement-free programs designed to assist students in learning more about their use of alcohol or marijuana. Housing and Residence Life

Student housing is available for on campus apartments for students who do not have a suitable housing alternative.  Starting on June 1, residents can apply for on campus housing and continue residing on campus with certain safety restrictions in place.

What can you expect?

  • Preventive measures that will be taken to protect you and our staff:
    • Social distancing
      • Visitors are not allowed to prevent risk of infection in spaces that may be shared with others.
      • To protect residents and employees, residents may be asked to temporarily leave apartments during health and safety inspections or maintenance.
      • All residents and staff will abide by physical distancing guidelines unless injury, risk mitigation, or safety measure require otherwise.
    • At the Casa Bella Apartments, the clubhouse, gym, and pool will remain closed until further notice.
    • Mail and Packages - By appointment at Casa Bella and Village Apartments (for packages).
    • Employees will adhere to wearing of masks, gloves when appropriate, maintain social distancing, etc.
  • Services
    • Virtual Office Hours by professional staff will be available
    • 24 Hour Emergency Response and Lockout Services by Resident Assistant will be available
    • Virtual Peer Advising Sessions and activities with Resident Assistants
  • Residents are encouraged to review and follow  CDC recommendations for living in shared spaces, which includes maintaining social distancing practices around people they don't live with, wearing face coverings in public spaces outside of their room, washing their hands regularly, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces daily.
  • Residents are encouraged to bring ample cleaning supplies to use in their rooms/apartments.

Our goal is always to provide a safe and healthy environment for our residents and implement precautions as recommended by the CDC, state, county and local authorities. The Student Service Centers in Brownsville and Edinburg will reopen Monday, June 1, in a limited capacity to coincide with the start of the Summer I session. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

University Recreation (UREC)

University Recreation recognizes the essential nature of overall health and wellness for all of our patrons during this difficult time.  Starting on June 1, the Edinburg UREC facility re-opened sections of the building with schedule modifications and 25% occupancy restrictions in place.

Fall Hours of Operation:  Monday – Thursday (10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.)

What can you expect?

  • The facility has been reconfigured to accommodate patrons for a 25% capacity limit while reinforcing social distancing requirements.
  • Appointment Scheduling will be made through IM Leagues - A scheduling system will be implemented using IM Leagues. Members will need to download the IM Leagues App. UREC will provide instructions and assistance as to how to set up accounts and provide information as to how to reserve times and spaces in the facility. Time slots are preset in IM Leagues for 30 minutes.
  • All regular entrance policies are still applicable (ie. appropriate athletic attire, UTRGV ID needed upon entry into the facility, etc.)
  • Preventive measures that will be taken to protect you and our members:
  • Patrons will complete a health questionnaire upon entrance indicating they are not experiencing physical symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Patrons must wipe down equipment before and after use of equipment.
  • All patrons and staff will abide by physical distancing guidelines unless injury, risk mitigation, or safety measure require otherwise.
  • Enhanced Cleaning and Disinfection – The facility will have opening and closing blocks scheduled when we will ask patrons to vacate so that our staff can not only clean, but disinfect the facility for the next scheduled group.

The UREC team recognizes that the new parameters may be challenging for some; however, we ask for your understanding and cooperation. We are committed to doing what we can to try to provide as safe of an environment as we can so that our members can get into the facility.

V One Card

ID Card Office is available to serve you remotely. 

Contactless service is provided using our V OneCard GET portal.  You can submit a request for your official University issued identification card (known as V OneCard) using our Online ID Request Process (click here for a step-by-step instruction guide).  The GET portal allows you to upload your photo ID, an ID card will be printed remotely and mailed to your home address.  Super easy and no waiting in lines!

All UTRGV campuses remain open until further notice and may be accessed by students, faculty and staff long as social-distancing guidelines, as recommended by the CDC, are being followed:

  • Limit gatherings to 10 or less people
  • Maintain distance (about 6 feet) from others when possible.
  • Stay home when you are sick with COVID-19 symptoms, which may include fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.
  • Adhere to public health hygienic recommendations by washing your hands after touching commonly used items or coming into contact with someone who is sick.

Health Centers

  • Employee and Student Health Centers will keep their normal business hours and also open from 8 a.m. - noon on Saturdays and Sunday until further notice.
  • Brownsville employees may use the Brownsville Student Health Center.

Student Support Services

  • All student support services (Advising, U Central, Counseling, Disability Services, Veterans Affairs, etc.) will remain open.

Library

  • The libraries on the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses will be closed March 28 & 29. Times of operation for Monday, March 30, and beyond will be announced at a later date.

Food services

  • The Grille located at El Comedor in Brownsville and the Dining Hall located in Edinburg will remain open to serve residents and the campus community.

Child Development Center

  • Services will remain available for children enrolled at the Child Development Center. Drop-in care will not be available due to limited staffing. CCAMPIS grant will cover childcare tuition starting the week of March 23rd.  Please contact Child Development Center if you have any questions.

Student Union

  • The Student Union will remain open for students who want to study. Group activities and programs will be suspended until further notice. Food venues and the game rooms will be closed until further notice.  Events and Conferences will be evaluated on a case by case basis and approved in accordance with University directives. 
    Coming soon: Interactive online student activities via Tik Tok and Zoom! We will keep all Vaqueros connected to campus life.

Recreation

  • University Recreation located in Edinburg will close until further notice. Student employees will report as normal. During this time, we will deep clean our facility in preparation for reopening. 
  • The recreation facility in Brownsville is scheduled to be closed for TSC’s Spring Break until March 23.
  • Please check the UREC website for updates on the most current information.

Transportation

  • Vaquero Express will provide modified transportation service effective Monday, March 16. VOLT service will be suspended until further notice. We will reassess demand of service based on the academic continuity plan as well as input from our transit partner, Valley Metro, and provide updates. Currently Valley Metro has no plans to cancel service on its own routes. Schedule changes to Transportation will be updated on our website. Look for the latest information on our UTRGV PTS Twitter.

Campus Stores & Vaquero Tech Center

  • Operating hours for Campus Stores & Vaquero Tech Centers located in Brownsville and Edinburg are adjusted as shown below. Free shipping will be available for all online orders until further notice.
  • Hours of operation:
    • Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
    • Friday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
