Harlingen Campus: Active Shooter Simulation (Monday, Dec. 19)

Friday, December 15, 2022 :: UTRGV Announcements

Dear Campus Community,

As part of our continued commitment to your safety and success, the UTRGV Office of Emergency Management (OEM), UTRGV Police Department, and local emergency response partners will conduct a full-scale active shooter exercise on the Harlingen Campus (HCEBL) this coming Monday, December 19.

Please note:

  • Only those participating in the exercise will be allowed access to the Harlingen Campus (HCEBL) from approximately 8 AM to 12 PM on that day.
  • Staff not participating will not be permitted to enter the building until the simulation concludes.
  • All UTRGV students, faculty, and staff will receive email and/or text (SMS) notifications via the Emergency Alert System when the exercise begins and ends.

The goal of this exercise is to test UTRGV’s policies, procedures, and response to a simulated mass casualty incident, as well as to identify any gaps in response capabilities. Hosted by UTRGV’s Police Department, the exercise is developed and delivered by the OEM in collaboration with the following community partners:

• Harlingen Police Department
• Cameron County Emergency Management
• Texas Department of Public Safety
• Texas State Technical College
• Coastal Bend Regional Advisory Council – Hospital Preparedness Program

Send questions and concerns about this exercise to EmergencyManagement@utrgv.edu.

Thank you for cooperating as we prepare for this critical campus safety event.

Sincerely,

UTRGV Office of Emergency Management
