Fall 2022: Managing COVID-19 on Campus

Friday, August 26, 2022 :: UTRGV Announcements

Dear UTRGV Family,

Although the Omicron variant continues to spread at high rates, the threat COVID-19 poses to UTRGV is not what it was at this time last year. That’s because so many of our students, faculty, staff, and loved ones have been vaccinated and continue to follow fact-based health and safety protocols.

The progress we’ve made has allowed us to continue working and learning in person and increased our confidence to make better decisions regarding case management going forward. That’s why, since May 16, all members of the UTRGV community have been responsible for managing their own COVID-19 screening and testing process.

If you test positive, have symptoms, or were exposed to COVID-19:

  1. Follow the CDC’s guidance for determining if/when to isolate and take other precautions.
  2. Contact your primary care physician or reach out to Student Health or Employee Health Services for care and guidance, especially if you have a specific health concern.

In all cases, it is your responsibility to communicate with your supervisors or instructors as soon as possible should the situation impact your ability to fulfill work or academic duties.

Students should also seek guidance from their instructors on how to successfully complete course work if quarantine, isolation, or illness causes absences. Faculty and supervisors are advised to be flexible with their students and employees and provide support, as needed.

Please Be Aware:

While UTRGV cannot require you to share your COVID-19 status with your peers, instructors, or supervisors, doing so — especially with those exposed to COVID-19 — is considered best practice.

As we prepare for Fall 2022, let’s all do our part to ensure this upcoming semester is as safe and successful as possible.

Sincerely,

UTRGV Infectious Disease Committee
