Thursday, June 23, 2022 :: UTRGV Announcements

Dear UTRGV Family,

Following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) latest recommendation, UT Health RGV is now offering COVID-19 vaccines for children under 5 years of age.

The Pfizer-BioNTech (Pfizer) vaccine is being offered as a three-dose primary series to children ages 6 months to 4 years while the Moderna vaccine is available to children ages 6 months to 5 years as a two-dose series.

Scheduling Vaccines for Children (6 months – 11 Years)

Vaccines for children in this group are only administered at specific UT Health RGV locations.

Please call 1-833-888-2268 and our scheduling professionals will help secure an appointment for your child.

Appointments for second and/or third doses will be scheduled on site during each patient’s vaccination.

NOTE:

  • Children ages 5+ are eligible for boosters at least 5 months after the final dose in their primary series.
  • Children ages 5+ who are moderately or severely immunocompromised should get a 3rd dose at least 4 weeks after their 2nd dose and a booster (4th dose) at least 3 months after the 3rd dose.

All children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
