Are You Prepared for Hurricane Season?
Wednesday, June 1, 2022 :: UTRGV Announcements
Dear Campus Community:
Once again, forecasters are anticipating above-normal activity in the Atlantic during the 2022 hurricane season (June 1 – November 30). As our campus community prepares for this volatile time of year, UTRGV’s Office of Emergency Management wants to highlight some things you can do now to mitigate your risk before, during, and after a storm:
- Check out UTRGV's Hurricane Preparedness page.
- This page has links to critical resources that can not only help you prepare your work area, but also protect yourself, loved ones, and property during a storm.
- Check your registered contact information — particularly your mobile phone number — and update it on PeopleSoft to ensure messages from UTRGV’s Emergency Mass Notification System reach you.
- View: How to update your contact information (PDF)
- Look out for official notifications from UTRGV’s Emergency Mass Notification System on your mobile phone and UTRGV email. You will receive SMS/Text messages and emails if UTRGV closes campus facilities or cancels classes.
- Also check for emails from the Office of the President or University Marketing and Communications via UTRGV Announcements (announcements@utrgv.edu).
- Follow UTRGV’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
- All updates will be accessible on these social media platforms.
- Check utrgv.edu/alert for supplemental updates and resources.
- Tune into local media (TV, radio news stations, and newspaper sites) for real-time information related to the storm.
- Tip: Use a battery-powered AM/FM radio if you lose power
PLEASE NOTE: If a campus is closed, no one will be allowed onto that campus until the campus is inspected and declared safe. You will be advised when to return to campus via SMS/Text, email, and the previously mentioned UTRGV webpages.
Sincerely,
Office of Emergency Management
