Welcome Back: NEW COVID-19 Testing Site & Resources
Dear UTRGV Family,
We hope the holiday break allowed everyone to enjoy, relax, and recharge ahead of the spring semester.
As we return to our campuses, offices, and classrooms, please know that University operations remain unchanged for the time being. Rest assured, UTRGV is committed to continuously monitoring infection rates and variants, including Omicron, and using the most current guidance from infectious disease and public health experts to make evidence-based decisions in the best interest of our campus community.
To help meet the increased demand for COVID-19 tests, the University will be offering drive-up testing services (by appointment only) to all UTRGV community members (internal and external) starting Tuesday, January 4, at the following location in Edinburg:
UTRGV CESS Building (Parking Lot)
1407 E Freddy Gonzalez Dr.
Monday - Friday
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
(by appointment only)
Test results will be available within 24-48 hours in your Athena patient portal.
UTRGV Students & Employees:
- Continue reviewing the Daily Self-Screening questions before coming to campus. If you answer “Yes” to any of these questions, STAY HOME and Complete the Preliminary COVID-19 Screening Form!
- Complete the Preliminary COVID-19 Screening Form if you:
- Experience symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, headache, shortness of breath.
- Tested positive for COVID-19, or
- Were in close contact with someone who tested positive.
- Get vaccinated against COVID-19 and get a booster.
- All people aged 5+ are eligible for vaccination, and everyone aged 16+ can currently get a *booster.
As a reminder, all University protocols, along with the latest updates on campus operations related to Spring 2022, can be found on our Welcome Back resource website.
*On January 3, 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine as a booster (third dose) in people aged 12-15, at least 5 months after the second dose. While it is expected that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will officially recommend the shots for this age group, such recommendation had not yet been made at the time this message was distributed.
