Who should get a flu vaccine?
Dear Faculty & Staff,
While this month brings many opportunities to gather and celebrate, it’s also a reminder that we are even closer to peak flu season.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every season (with rare exceptions). And as we’ve seen with COVID-19, underlying health condition like asthma, diabetes, or heart disease, greatly increase your risk of developing serious flu complications that may lead to hospitalization and even death.
If you have not yet gotten vaccinated against the flu, don’t worry — there’s still time to protect yourself and your loved ones. As a reminder, all UTRGV benefits eligible employees can get a flu vaccine for FREE by calling and scheduling an appointment at the following locations:

Two Vaccines. One UTRGV.
The emergence of flu amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has reaffirmed the importance of vaccines and their ability to protect our health. If you haven’t already done so, please take the time to get vaccinated against these two viruses. You can even save time by getting your flu shot and COVID-19 vaccine (or booster) during the same visit, as recommended by the CDC and its Advisory Committee on Immunizations Practices (ACIP).
For more on influenza and vaccines, visit the CDC’s FAQs about the 2021-2022 flu season.
Thank you for doing your part to protect yourself and prevent an outbreak.
