Vaccines + Face Coverings = Your best defense against Delta

Tuesday, August 17, 2021 :: UTRGV Announcements

Dear UTRGV Family,

Regardless of your vaccination status, wearing a face covering - especially in public indoor settings - remains highly effective at preventing the spread of COVID-19 and the Delta variant.

Face Coverings

While vaccination remains our top defense against COVID-19, wearing a mask can also protect you and others from becoming infected, even if you are fully vaccinated. As a Texas public institution, UTRGV cannot require you to wear a face covering in university buildings. However, please know that doing so indoors in public is strongly encouraged and highly recommended by doctors and medical experts alike.

Fall 2021 Expectations

We believe Fall 2021 can be a safe and successful semester - but we need you to do your part. There are currently no local, state, or national COVID-19 health mandates that enable UTRGV to require the wearing of face coverings, social distancing, or vaccinations within our campus community. Because of these limitations, we all must consider the consequences of our actions and how each choice affects ourselves, our families, friends, and colleagues.

Whatever happens in the weeks and months ahead, rest assured that UTRGV has the experience and mechanisms in place to facilitate the uninterrupted continuation of your academic and professional journeys.

For the most current and accurate information regarding course modalities, campus operations, and services, including more proven and effective ways to mitigate your risk of contracting COVID-19, visit utrgv.edu/welcomeback.
