The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19?
Dear UTRGV Family,
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has made it clear that unvaccinated people remain the greatest concern in the fight against COVID-19. Driving this concern is the highly contagious Delta variant, the virus currently causing more severe illness — and death — than previous coronavirus strains.
Get Vaccinated
While Delta is prolonging the pandemic here in the United States, the most effective way to slow its spread continues to be through vaccinations. According to the CDC, vaccination remains widely protective against the variant, and fully vaccinated people are safe to resume most pre-pandemic activities, though wearing a mask indoors in public is highly recommended.
If you are not yet vaccinated, here’s how to get it:
- Access the UTRGV Vaccine Portal with your UTRGV credentials and schedule an appointment, or…
- Walk into a UTRGV Student or Employee Health clinic in Brownsville, Edinburg, or Harlingen to receive the vaccine at your convenience.
NOTE: If you got the first dose but still have not received your second, follow either step above.
Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 has always been the best way to protect yourself from infection — and it remains our best bet to ending this pandemic. As a Texas public institution, UTRGV cannot require you to get vaccinated against COVID-19. However, please know that doing so is strongly encouraged and highly recommended by doctors and medical experts alike.
Fall 2021 Expectations
We believe Fall 2021 can be a safe and successful semester — but we need you to do your part. There are currently no local, state, or national COVID-19 health mandates that enable UTRGV to require the wearing of face coverings, social distancing, or vaccinations within our campus community. Because of these limitations, we all must consider the consequences of our actions and how each choice affects ourselves, our families, friends, and colleagues.
Whatever happens in the weeks and months ahead, rest assured that UTRGV has the experience and mechanisms in place to facilitate the uninterrupted continuation of your academic and professional journeys.
