URGENT: COVID-19 Protocol and Vaccine Update
Dear UTRGV Family:
Based on our review of Executive Order GA-34 issued Tuesday by Texas Governor Greg Abbott and considering current COVID-19 conditions in the Rio Grande Valley, UTRGV will continue to enforce all our COVID-19 protocols until further notice. All UTRGV protocols, which were developed and implemented based on CDC guidelines, can be found on our Commitment to Safety and Success webpage.
For our students, faculty, and staff who are taking classes or working from home, please continue to do so until further notice.
Our COVID-19 protocols have been in place for almost a year, and your cooperation has helped to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on our campuses.
Expansion of Vaccine Eligibility
The Texas Department of State Health Services announced Wednesday that all vaccine providers in Texas should immediately administer vaccines to K-12 education and child-care personnel, specifically:
“those who work in pre-primary, primary and secondary schools, as well as Head Start and Early Head Start programs (including teachers, staff, and bus drivers) and those who work as or for licensed child care providers, including center-based and family care providers.”
For those members of the UTRGV campus community who may fit this criterion, you will soon receive an email discussing eligibility and providing more information. If you are eligible, the next step would be to fill out the UTRGV Vaccine Portal and schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience.
If you have any questions, please email covidvaccine@utrgv.edu.
