UPDATE: Return to Campus Guidance
Confirmed cases of COVID-19 at our campus/off-campus facilities
Please be aware that the current spike of confirmed COVID-19 cases throughout the Rio Grande Valley will reveal more positive cases at UTRGV’s campus/off-campus facilities.
Since our last update on June 16, 21 members of our university community who were at one of our campus/off-campus facilities have been confirmed by medical professionals to have COVID-19 (coronavirus).
Consistent with UTRGV protocols, anyone identified within our university community as being at risk of exposure from these individuals has been notified by our COVID-19 Response Team and has been instructed to be isolated or tested. The COVID-19 Response Team is responsible for identifying and contacting others who may have been at risk. In addition, areas of exposure are thoroughly disinfected and cleaned as needed.
Protect Yourself/Others
Please remember that we all play an important role in protecting each other and ourselves from COVID-19. Each day, before accessing any of UTRGV’s campus/off-campus facilities, review the screening questions regarding COVID-19-related symptoms and perform a self-screening.
If you answer yes to any of the questions, have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, or have recently been tested for COVID-19, please do not access our campuses/off-campus facilities. Instead please follow the instructions below:
- Employees (including student employees) must communicate with their supervisor and fill out the following Preliminary COVID-19 Screening Form. Your information will be reviewed and a member of our COVID-19 Response Team will reach out to you. The COVID-19 Response Team is responsible for identifying and contacting others who may have been at risk. Employees may not return to work until they are released by a member of the COVID-19 Response Team.
- Supervisors who are informed by their employees about possible COVID-19 Symptoms or exposure should direct the employee to utilize the form to ensure that the COVID-19 Response Team helps to develop a plan of action for the employee, as well as the employee’s work environment.
- Students are advised to call UTRGV Student Health Services at (956) 665-2511 (Edinburg) or (956) 882-3896 (Brownsville), or their personal healthcare provider.
If you are cleared to access a campus/off-campus facility, you are required to wear a face covering that covers the mouth and nose:
- The covering must be worn in all hallways, public spaces, research labs, teaching/computer labs, libraries, classrooms, automobiles with a passenger, stairwells, elevators and common areas, as well as office spaces. In office spaces, when social distancing of 6 feet is possible and maintained, face coverings may be removed.
- Face coverings also are required in outdoor settings, if safe social distancing and gathering practices are not possible.
