UTRGV opening third COVID-19 drive-thru testing site, in Mercedes
Dear Campus Community:
Beginning Wednesday, April 22, 2020, the UTRGV School of Medicine, through UT Health RGV, is opening a third drive-thru location offering COVID-19 screening. The new location is in Mercedes.
Two previous testing sites, one in Edinburg and one in Brownsville, are still in operation.
Screenings at all three testing sites are by appointment only.
Please rest assured that healthcare and security personnel will be present to ensure that drive-thru protocols are followed, such as:
- Avoiding on-site congestion;
- Utilizing test kits for those with significant symptoms; and
- Ensuring that social distancing and other safety protocols are maintained.
The drive-thru sites will be open to employees, students and the public, and on-site evaluation will be available by appointment only for those 18 years of age or older who qualify after telephone screening.
To make an appointment, call the UT Health RGV Patient Communications Center at 1-833-UTRGVMD (1-833-887-4863).
Individuals without insurance can get screened for COVID-19 at no cost. Results of the evaluation will be confirmed within days for those tested, and prescriptions for testing will be provided by UTRGV physicians at the point of care.
Individuals should arrive at the UT Health RGV drive-thru site with their identification.
If parents think their child has been exposed to COVID-19 and their child develops a fever and symptoms such as a cough or difficulty breathing, they should call their doctor’s office or one of our UT Health RGV Pediatric Specialty physicians for medical advice.
UTRGV will continue to work with local and state officials, as well as local hospitals, to ensure that mitigating the spread of COVID-19 and its impact on the community is a priority.
