COVID-19 (coronavirus) Update: Cameron County
As shared yesterday, Cameron County has issued a mandatory 24/7 shelter-in-place order for its residents, effective for 12:01 a.m. Wednesday (March 25) through April 8.
UTRGV confirmed with the county Tuesday that the order has exceptions and UTRGV falls within those exceptions because we perform essential government functions as a state education institution.
However, as of Monday, UTRGV had proactively moved as many employees as possible to work from home, which means our Cameron County residents are already following the guidance provided by the county regarding essential staffing.
Nonetheless, we know that for our Cameron County residents, this can be a confusing time. Please know that we are navigating unchartered territories, but we’ll get through this together.
Below is guidance in your role as a member of the UTRGV community during this shelter-in-place order.
We Are Here for You
While most of UTRGV’s operations are already being conducted remotely, our campuses remain open only to provide essential services to students, faculty and staff.
Please rest assured that the university is working diligently to ensure all CDC social-distancing guidelines are being observed at all our campuses and off-campus sites.
