Center for Innovation and Commercialization

Welcome to the UTRGV Center for Innovation and Commercialization, where innovation meets opportunity in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley. Our mission is clear: to foster economic growth in a region rich with potential yet historically underrepresented in the entrepreneurial landscape.

At the Center, we are committed to three foundational pillars. First, we support regional entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey, from concept to market acceleration. Through mentorship, resources, and strategic guidance, we empower innovators to turn bold ideas into thriving businesses.

Second, we are dedicated to cultivating the next generation of RGV entrepreneurs. By offering students hands-on experiences in venture creation and innovation, we prepare them to lead and succeed in an evolving marketplace. Our goal is to ensure that student success is at the forefront, providing them with the tools and opportunities to not only learn but to excel and make a significant impact.

Lastly, we aspire to be the pivotal hub of the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem. By forging partnerships, facilitating collaboration, and fostering a culture of innovation, we aim to catalyze the emergence of sustainable, scalable enterprises that drive local economic prosperity.

Together, with our community of innovators, educators, and business leaders, we envision a future where creativity and entrepreneurship flourish, transforming ideas into impactful solutions. Join us as we embark on this journey to redefine what's possible in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond, with a strong emphasis on student success and regional growth.

Warm regards,

Laurie Simmons, Director Center for Innovation and Commercialization

Mission Statement

The Center for Innovation and Commercialization seeks to promote economic growth in the Rio Grande Valley, a region that has been historically underdeveloped. This will be achieved by pursuing three key tasks: first, by assisting regional entrepreneurs in the ideation, development, and acceleration of new business ventures; second, by developing the next generation of RGV entrepreneurs by providing students with experiential learning opportunities in new venture creation; and lastly, by becoming the nexus of the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem. In so doing we will drive the creation of local innovative and scalable enterprises.
