Travel Awards Program

The UTRGV Center for Genome Research offers travel awards to support attendance at genetics-related conferences by faculty, postdocs, and students. Applications are accepted on a continuing basis. Appropriate topics for conferences include genetic epidemiology, genomics, proteomics, human genetics, clinical genetics, and ethical, legal and social implications genetics/genomics. Examples of conferences that fit the Travel Awards Program include the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Human Genetics, the Annual Meeting of the Texas Genetics Society, the Annual Meeting of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics, and the biennial ELSI Congress. Individuals who receive awards to support travel to conferences must prepare a one-page report concerning what they gained from the meeting to be submitted within six weeks of returning from the meeting.

UTRGV faculty, postdocs, and students also may apply for support to attend workshops and other training programs related to genetics and genomics. Up to one week of travel support will be provided to successful applicants. Individuals who receive awards to support participation in workshops or training programs must deliver a one-hour lecture to share what was learned through the training within six months of completion of the workshop or training program.
