Teachers who are interested in having their students participate in the Torneo de Ortografía should contact their district’s Bilingual/ESL office. Communication regarding the registration process is disseminated through the Region One Emergent Bilingual Support office to school district Bilingual/ESL directors.
NOTE: We do not register individual schools or teachers.
The best way to help prepare your students to compete in the Torneo de Ortografía is to teach them the rules of Spanish orthography. Additionally, make sure your student participants are highly familiar with the competition’s rules and procedures.
Pre-registered districts will receive a copy of the competition’s rules and procedures along with sample word lists.
NOTE: A reminder that judges may choose words from across and outside of the sample lists.
Substitutions are allowed on the day of the event and must be reported at check in. However, changes to a district’s student list cannot exceed the maximum allowed for each division OR the number of slots for which a district pre-registered.
The Torneo de Ortografía welcomes teacher sponsors, district leaders, parents and family members to accompany participating students.
