College Access and K-12 Partnerships Awards
The College Access and K-12 Partnerships awards will be announced during the College Access and K-12 Partnerships Fall Retreat 2024 happening on October 4, 2024 The timeline to follow is:
- Applications open: September 3, 2024
- Close Applications: September 18, 2024
- Announcement of Winners: October 4,2024
The College Access and K-12 Partnerships Student Employee of the Year Award recognizes the contributions of student employees to the university community and honors their efforts. College Access and K-12 Partnerships staff may nominate a student employee who is enrolled in a UTRGV degree program at least half-time and has completed at least six months of part-time employment during the academic year. Work-study, direct wage, SEI student, and Graduate Assistant Student employees are eligible for nomination. Nominators may nominate more than one student.
The nominees will be recognized during the Fall Retreat happening on October 4, 2024.
Eligibility
To be eligible, students must be:
- Enrolled in a UTRGV degree program at least half-time.
- A degree-seeking part-time or full-time student.
- Completed at least six months of employment during the academic year.
- Maintain a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0.
- Must be in good academic standing with the University and must not have any disciplinary corrective action on the file.
- Departments may nominate multiple students.
- Previous winners are not eligible to be nominated.
Criteria
- Demonstrated outstanding reliability, initiative, leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
- Goes the extra mile each day to ensure the success of the office or program through their assigned duties.
- Made an outstanding contribution to improving the office during the academic year.

The purpose of the Rookie of the Year Award is to recognize and distinguish a new Classified employee (with a minimum of six months of employment and no more than one year).
Rookie of the Year nominees for this award should have a remarkable ability to adjust to a new work environment while demonstrating outstanding enthusiasm, creativity, a high level of energy, and ability to make a significant contribution to a College Access and K-12 Partnerships department. The employee should be able to complete job assignments and perform job responsibilities with minimum supervision.
The nominees will be recognized during the Fall Retreat happening on October 4, 2024.
Eligibility
- All nominees for the Rookie of the Year Award must have been hired during the fiscal year at any department or program within the College Access and K-12 Partnerships unit.
- Must be a full-time, benefits-eligible, classified employee.
- Must be in good standing and not have any disciplinary corrective action on file.
- Must be up to date on all compliance training.
- Previous winners are not eligible to be nominated.
Criteria
The nominee will have demonstrated the following characteristics:
- Ability to adjust to a new work environment
- Creativity
- Initiative
- Self-motivation
- A unique contribution to the department

The Employee of the Year Award recognizes and rewards exemplary performance by College Access and K-12 Partnerships employees based both on the performance of their responsibilities as outlined in their position description and on their specific contributions to the mission, goals, values, and strategic plan of the unit.
The nominees will be recognized during the Fall Retreat happening on October 4, 2024.
Eligibility
- Nominees must be employed for a minimum of one year with the College Access and K-12 Partnerships unit.
- Must be a full-time, benefits-eligible, classified employee.
- Must be in good standing with the Office of Human Resources and must not have any disciplinary corrective action on the file.
- Must be up to date on all compliance training.
- Must have a satisfactory appraisal on file.
- Directors are excluded from this award.
- Previous winners are not eligible to be nominated.
Criteria
The nominee will have demonstrated excellence in the following areas:

- Ethical standards
- Unique contributions to the department

This award is presented to a member of the College Access and K-12 Partnerships community who has shown commitment and passion for the Unit and its mission regardless of title or position.
The nominees will be recognized during the Fall Retreat happening on October 4, 2024.

- Must be a full-time, benefits-eligible employee.
- Open to all employees with a minimum of one year of employment with the unit.
- Must be in good standing with the Office of Human Resources and must not have any disciplinary corrective action on the file.

- Must be up to date on all compliance training.
- Previous winners are not eligible to be nominated.
Criteria
The nominee will have demonstrated excellence in the following areas:
- Outstanding Work — Displays superior performance to the highest standards of excellence at their job and their commitment to ongoing improvement.

The Collaboration of the Year Award recognizes effective and strategic collaboration between College Access and K-12 Partnerships unit and other departments or programs based on documented impact programming had on its target audience.
The nominees will be recognized during the Fall Retreat happening on October 4, 2024.
To be eligible for this award, departments/programs must have:
- Involved 2 or more entities in the overall planning and execution of the event or initiative
- Taken place during the academic year
- Previous winners are not eligible to be nominated.
Criteria
- Fulfill the mission of the Unit/ University.
- Collaboration is created in support of student success.
- Program demonstrates teamwork across Departments/University.
- Maximized resources for greatest benefit to participants.
- Collaboration is sustainable.
- Must submit documentation i.e. Surveys, testimonials, letters of support to demonstrate its effectiveness, pictures.

The Summer Program of the Year Award recognizes any outstanding programming that took place during Summer 2024. Programming may have involved students, external community partners, staff, or others, and aligned to the Unit/University mission.
The nominees will be recognized during the Fall Retreat happening on October 4, 2024.
Eligibility
- Must have fulfilled all UTRGV Youth Program requirements, if applicable.
- Multi-day/weeks not intended for one-day event.
- Program addresses community needs.
- Previous winners are not eligible to be nominated.
Criteria
- Align with the mission of the Unit/ University.
- Impact that the program had on the participants.
- Effectively used resources to achieve the desired outcome.
- Demonstrated innovation

The Director of the Year award is presented to a director who has demonstrated outstanding leadership by accomplishing program goals, creating a supportive culture for staff, demonstrating passion for student success, celebrating diversity, and an overall dedication to UTRGV.
The nominees will be recognized during the Fall Retreat happening on October 4, 2024.
Eligibility
- Must be a full-time, benefits-eligible employee.
- Open to all Directors with at least one year of experience in their current position.
- Must be in good standing with the Office of Human Resources and must not have any disciplinary corrective action on the file.
- Must be up to date on all compliance training.
- Previous winners are not eligible to be nominated.
