Social Innovation for a Healthy South Texas
This multi-year project focuses on examining the efficacy of primary care behavioral health model on depression and physical symptoms in low income families from the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas.

Past Funding Faculty Development Grant for Women of Color This project involved a Summer Writing Retreat consisting of a two-week pre-retreat period, one-week in residence session, and a post-retreat period of seven weeks during which time progress on research activities (grants and publications) of Women of Color in STEM fields, including, Psychology, was supported and monitored. At the end of the grant period, multiple research manuscripts were submitted for publication. EXTERNAL SPONSORSHIP Conference on Interpersonal Violence and Trauma This project involved organizing a Conference on Interpersonal Violence and Trauma on the theme of Promoting healthy relationship among young adults. The one-day conference comprised a keynote address by Dr. Julian D. Ford, Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Law at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and the President of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), a panel discussion by UTRGV faculty and service providers from the Rio Grande Valley, Texas on the topic of Interpersonal trauma: risk to resilience, and student poster presentation session with poster awards. Over 250 participants comprising UTRGV faculty, students, and staff, adult probation officers, CASA workers, and service providers from the Rio Grande Valley participated in the conference. Role: Conference organizer Dates: 03/19/2019 Amount: $10,000 Ceramic Art Workshop This project involved organizing a ceramic art workshop with student participants from the UTRGV ACT Lab, Intersectional Club, Psychology Club, and the Ceramic Organization. The one-day workshop had a talk delivered by Dr. Ruby Charak on the topic of Ceramic Art Therapy, followed by a ceramic workshop lead by Prof. Raheleh Filsoofi (Assistant Professor, School of Art, UTRGV) and her team. The aim of the workshop was to bring students from different streams together, and elucidate the use of clay therapy in reducing daily life stress.
