Authorized Users: Account Access and Management
The Authorized User feature allows individuals, such as family members or employers, to assist the account holder with essential financial tasks.
Authorized Users can:
- Receive notifications when new statements are available.
- Make payments on the account.
- View the account's activity.
Important Note: Authorized User access is separate from Proxy Access and does not grant access to academic records (such as grades). This access is also independent of any permission granted under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Login Tips for Authorized Users
To ensure a smooth login experience, please observe the following:
- Password Expiration: For security, authorized user passwords expire every 90 days and must be updated. Upon expiration, you will be automatically prompted to change your password.
- Temporary Passwords: These passwords expire after 24 hours. If your temporary password is older than 24 hours, you must request a new one.
- Copying Passwords: When copying and pasting a password, ensure you do not include any extra spaces before or after the text. If login issues persist, typing the password manually may resolve the problem.
- Account Lockout: After five (5) unsuccessful login attempts, the account will be locked for 20 minutes. The "Forgot Password" feature will be unavailable during this lockout period.
How to Add an Authorized User
The student must initiate and manage Authorized User access within the myUTRGV ASSIST portal.
- Students can add multiple authorized users.
- Access can be granted or removed by the student at any time.
- An authorized user must have a valid email address.
The new Authorized User will receive email notifications containing their unique username, a temporary password, and login instructions.
Steps for the Student to Add a User:
- Access ASSIST through myUTRGV
- Click on "My Finances"
- Click on "Make a Payment"
- Click "Pay Student Bill"
- Go to “Authorized Users” and “Add Authorized User”
- A notification will be sent to the entered authorized user’s email
- Follow steps to activate the authorized user’s account
Authorized User Access
- Select Authorized User.
- Log in using the email address and password that was sent to you upon enrollment by the student.
First-Time/Password Reset Login Tip: If you are logging into the system for the first time or resetting your password, please copy and paste the temporary password you received via email to avoid entry errors.
