What is SAFE-D?
The Study of Anxiety Free Experiences at the Dentist (SAFE-D) is a research study for children who are very afraid of going to the dentist.
The study looks at two therapeutic treatments that may help children feel less afraid of dental visits. The treatment your child receives is given in one session by a registered dental hygienist.
We then will check-in on how your child is feeling about going to the dentist 1-week after the treatment, 6 months after treatment, and 12 months after treatment. This means there are a total of 5 study visits.
Who can participate?
We are looking for children ages 7 to 16 who are very afraid of going to the dentist.
During a brief phone screening, we can see if your child is eligible for our study. If your child qualifies, we can schedule a study visit during the same call.
