Meet Hector Arteaga, a UTRGV Unsung Hero
Text by Amanda A. Taylor-Uchoa
Hector Arteaga, Senior Engineering Technician on the Edinburg Campus, has spent nearly three decades ensuring the university’s machine shop runs like a well-oiled machine. From checking each piece of equipment in the Hi-Bay area to training students on the basics of machining, Arteaga’s dedication keeps operations running smoothly while giving future engineers the hands-on experience they need to thrive.
For Arteaga, the students are the best part of the job. “We have some very bright students here,” he said, reflecting on his 30-year journey with the department. Hired with the goal of retiring in the same place he started, he’s proud to say he’s still here, eager to support the next generation of innovators.
